Misinformation flooding social media has become a big problem in India.

Internet Freedom Score

India has partial freedom in regard to internet access and apps. The country score 51 out of 100 in internet freedom in 2020, and has declined for three years straight, according to Freedom House.

The government has implemented more internet shutdowns. Reasons include protestsmisinformation, and cheating on tests.

Misinformation and Covid-19

The top downloaded apps in India include Whatsapp, YouTube, and Facebook.

The spread of misinformation has contributed to a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Ninety-five percent of the misinformation comes from misinformation, and 85 percent is from social media according to a study analyzed by First Post.

In the rural areas, the rise of internet usage and lack of media literacy has led to people not knowing how to make a vaccine appointment. An abundance of false theories that overwhelm the correct information.
