The basketball game was great practice for my first Twitter coverage. I was able to get there 30 minutes early and had no issue finding my seat. I saw almost all of the game from my section and I was able to see it from a TV when I got food.

To prepare for the event I looked at how a couple of Heat and Wizards reporters were covering their previous games on Twitter. I used their feeds to figure out what information needed to be covered such as injuries and standings in the east.

I made sure during the game to tweet each quarter’s score and which players scored well. I had an issue knowing when to use @ for a player’s name instead of just their name. I didn’t use the @ unless I felt it was an important moment. I wasn’t sure which hashtags were strong for the event, but then I found #HEATCulture was popular during the game. I mixed in some tweets outside of the game stat lines such as tweeting what jerseys were worn.

I’m proud of my tweet near the end of the game where I felt I captured the energy in the arena. If I went back, I would have taken a video to add it to the tweet.
